Stirling Regional Training for Scotland Squads 2009

After a fantastic display by Stirling men and the combined Glasgow/Stirling women in the Scottish National Championships that took place in September, we are delighted to have 14 players invited to train with Scotland. There are two international events in summer 2009 that we are building towards and it'd be an amazing result for Touch in Stirling if all these players manage to compete.

The players invited to National training are as follows:
Men's Open
Stuart Imrie
Larry Irwin
Gregor McGregor
Simon Trevis-Smith

Men's 30's
Colin Jardine
Euan Kerr
Gordon Kerr
Phil Leeks

Men's 35's
Fraser Adair
Jon Creasey
Stuart Smith

Women's Open
Karen Johnson

Women's 30's
Jill Dickson
Yvonne Jardine

Training for the Scotland squads began just before Christmas with all squads meeting up in Edinburgh for introductions, talks and fitness tests.

The squads will now train regionally before meeting up again in Edinburgh on 7th March.

Stirling training for the Scotland squad members will be led by our regional co-ordinator, Stuart Smith, and be held separately from normal Stirling Touch training sessions. Stuart will be assisted in coaching by Colin Jardine and Larry Irwin.

We are also pleased to be able to combine forces with our neighbours at Glasgow Touch to share the coaching and experience between the two regions. Glasgow sessions will be led by Douglas Johnson and Victor Francisco.

This training will take place on Sunday afternoons at 4pm (Stirling) and Sunday mornings at 10am (Glasgow), alternating between Stirling and Glasgow each week. Dates and venues are as follows:

11th Jan - Bannockburn Rugby Club
18th Jan - Glasgow Green
25th Jan - Forthbank, Stirling
1st Feb - Glasgow Green
8th Feb - Forthbank, Stirling
15th Feb - Glasgow Green
22nd Feb - Forthbank, Stirling (5pm start)
29th Feb - Glasgow Green

The squad will be working hard to build upon basic skills, improve fitness and increase agility so that all our players are in best position possible when it comes to Scotland squad selection in April.
