Stirling touch

About Stirling Touch

Our club was formed in the summer of 2001 by a big baldy teuchter who was fed up with the lack of sporting opportunities in the Stirling area, or in other words; he was rubbish at football and needed to play a sport that didn’t involve his two left feet. Repeated injury on the rugby field meant the full contact version was out so he decided to start a ‘Touch’ rugby club.

Having badgered a number of work colleagues into turning up to play touch he was pleasantly surprised when they all enjoyed themselves and wanted to come back for more. Buoyed by this initial success it evolved into a regular twice a week thing and we even managed to attract players from out with the confines of work. This was the best thing that happened to us and we have a very strong social side to the club.

After a drunken conversation in a local hostelry it was decided we should really form a ‘proper’ club. And everybody knows a proper club should have a proper name. As the founder was an Aberdonian it was deemed by the ‘southerners’ that the name should have an ovine or ‘sheep’ theme. Thus the birth of ‘The Flossie Posse’.

After entering a tournament in Edinburgh in the summer of 2002 The Posse discovered ‘real touch’ as opposed to the made up version we had initially been playing. After early grumblings from the gang everybody eventually came round to the ‘New’ rules and we embraced them whole heartedly.

We’ve never looked back since. Not only did the structure improve our fitness and understanding but it eventually led to five of our players being selected for Scotland training squads in the autumn of 2007.

We’ve come a long way in a short time but this is only the beginning. After the Club hosted a very successful touch tournament in 2007 we are hoping to build touch in the Stirling area.

Come along and join us; it’ll be fun!
